It is important that you visit our dentist Lalor on a regular basis, at least once every six months, to prevent cavities from forming and damaging your teeth. Cavities can be caused as a result of many different reasons. They can be caused by food and drink, they can be caused by certain lifestyle choices such as smoking and imbibing lots of alcohol. Some people are more prone to developing cavities if they are affected by certain illnesses such as eating disorders, acid reflux, diabetes, thyroid disorders and autoimmune conditions. Hormonal imbalance during pregnancy and the menopause can also affect your teeth. Therefore, it is important that if you are affected by any of these illnesses or you are at a certain stage of your life, for example you are pregnant or you are experiencing the menopause, to look after your teeth more carefully and visit our dentist Lalor more often.
If cavities are left to develop either by neglecting your dental hygiene or avoiding our dentist Lalor then this can lead to irreversible damage. If you have irreversible damage not only can you lose your teeth, but you will suffer from a range of symptoms including soreness, pain, bad breath, swelling and a lot of discomfort until the tooth has been taken out or it has fallen out. You can also damage other surrounding teeth, therefore our dentist at Epping High Dental needs to check your teeth regularly for any signs of cavities so that they can be treated very early on. Early signs of cavities can be reversed with good dental hygiene, but the later stages will need extensive treatment as mentioned, or even extraction.
Root canal treatment
Root canal treatment is often carried out on cavities which have led to tooth decay. Root canal treatment involves removing the infected pulp and nerve in the root of the tooth, cleaning and shaping the inside of the root canal, then filling and sealing the space. Our dentist will then place a crown on the tooth to restore the function and appearance of your smile. If the tooth needs to be removed completely then you will have to speak to our dentist at Epping High Dental and find out about replacing it to prevent further complications.
Dental implants
Dental implants are a permanent solution to replacing missing teeth. Our dentist will drill a small hole into the bone socket of the missing tooth. The implant will be inserted into the hole and the gum is stitched over the implant to allow the implant to heal and become fixed into place. The healing process takes approximately 4-6 months after which the implant can be fitted with a crown or a set of dentures.
Crowns and dental implants can replace missing teeth, however it is always important to remember that nothing will be as good as the real thing, therefore take good care of your mouth, maintain excellent dental hygiene and visit our dentist at least once every six months for clean, healthy teeth and a beautiful smile.
All treatment carries risks. Individual consultation is required with one of our practitioners to ensure that the treatment is right for you.
